When VEGA and the Agency for Culture and Palaces open the doors to the conference Lost in Distraction?, as part of the EU Presidency's cultural programme, it will be with strong names. At the forefront is the invitation to rethink the role of culture and the arts as Europe's way forward.
In a time marked by digital distractions, technological changes and social fractures, the conference Lost in Distraction is an invitation to rethink the role of culture: not as decoration, but as a foundation for renewal, cohesion and sustainable communities.
Among the confirmed headliners is director Christina Rosendahl, who delivers a keynote on the importance of art in a changed Europe, while the Greenlandic artist Tarrak contributes with an artistic performance. In addition, the audience can experience Kaave Poer from 21st Europe, who will unfold perspectives on the future of Europe, and Katrine Pedersen, who brings young people's voices into the conversation about the potential of culture. The conference opens with a Deep Listening session by Giift and is led throughout the day by host Louise Opprud.
The programme also includes contributions from key cultural actors such as Roskilde Festival, Copenhagen Contemporary, the Danish Film Institute and VEGA, who together with festival directors, curators and filmmakers will discuss how art and culture can create new ways forward. The day will be rounded off with networking activities and art experiences in VEGA, including audiovisual works in the foyer and immersive music experiences in Ideal Bar.
The conference framework has been developed by independent curator Majken Overgaard and Nicklas Larsen, Head of Impact at the Institute for Futures Studies. Lost in Distraction is part of the Danish EU Presidency and is organized by VEGA, the Agency for Culture and Palaces, the Danish Film Institute and Copenhagen and the Institute for Futures Studies in collaboration with Creative Europe Desk Denmark and the Cultural Summit Mors. The conference is financed with support from the European Commission.
