Introducing Digital Arts as an artform gives a clearer path for artists and organisations that work in a digital medium. By dedicating an artform to this medium, barriers or limitations set by the perceptions of ‘visual arts’ are removed and artists may feel more empowered to take creative risks and work with emerging technologies. Digital technology is not simply an enabling tool, but a defining creative force, as well as a way of artists imagining what art means in the 21st century. Digital Art is appreciated not just for what it can replicate of traditional mediums, but for what it can do that traditional media cannot.
