<P><SPAN>The United Arab Emirates Cultural Foundation was established by government regulation in 1981. </SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The Foundation serves professional arts, community arts, amateur arts, music, theatre, dance, visual arts, crafts, cultural animation, heritage, folk or traditional culture, museums and galleries, libraries and archives, language training, training of artists and/or cultural workers, writing, support for book and magazine publishing, translation, media arts, film, video and television, multi-media and arts education.</SPAN></P>
<P><STRONG><U><SPAN>The Council</SPAN></U></STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>

<LI><SPAN>has lead responsibility at the national level for co-ordinating international cultural relations and exchanges</SPAN>

<LI><SPAN>provides training and professional development in artistic/cultural fields</SPAN>

<P><SPAN> </SPAN><STRONG><U><SPAN>The Governing Body</SPAN></U></STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The 10 members of the governing body are appointed by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council (local government) and serve for an open period of time. </SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN> </SPAN><STRONG><U><SPAN>The Staff</SPAN></U></STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>Foundation employees are members of the public service. There are currently 305 staff.<SPAN> </SPAN>The chief executive officer is appointed by the governing body.<SPAN> </SPAN>The staff who have direct program responsibilities (those who manage programs of support to organisations and/or individuals) come from the field.<SPAN> </SPAN>The Foundation has no regional offices.</SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN> </SPAN><STRONG><U><SPAN>Budget and Revenue Sources:</SPAN></U></STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The organisation’s total budget for 2003-2004 is 50 million Emirati Dirham (approx US$13.6 million).<SPAN> </SPAN>100% of this budget is contributed by the national government.<SPAN> </SPAN>Over the last five years, funding from government has increased.</SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN><STRONG><U><SPAN>Programs of Financial Support for the Arts/Cultural Community</SPAN></U></STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The funds awarded by the Culture Foundation can be used for</SPAN></P>
