Unique or Special Features of the Organisation

In terms of direct distribution of public money at the national level, the Arts Council Korea is the first and foremost arts advocate in the country. The Korean Culture and Arts Promotion Fund, raised and managed by the Arts Council Korea, is a unique and vital financial source for the development of Korean culture and arts.

Greatest Current Challenge

Given the government decision to terminate surcharges on admission fees by the year 2005, the Arts Council Korea’s fundraising plan has been placed as a critical agenda. The Arts Council Korea is trying to develop alternative revenue sources to secure its financial status.

Greatest Current Strength

Currently, the accumulated Korea Culture and Arts Promotion Fund, which totals around $500 million, is the organisations greatest strength. With this endowment fund, the Arts Council Korea should be able to carry out its mission for the next several years. In addition, since 2005, we have changed not only our organisational structure but also name from the Korean Culture and Arts Foundation to the Arts Council Korea. This transition is giving us the strength as a leading representative arts-grant agency in Korea.
