January 24 is a date of capital importance for our continent. It commemorates the adoption of the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance, which establishes culture as an essential pillar of our identity, cohesion and development. Faithful to its pan-African commitment, Togo has carried out, within UNESCO, the initiative that led to the establishment of 24 January as the World Day for African and Afro-descendant Culture. This international recognition illustrates our nation's deep conviction: African culture is a strength, a lever for peace and a driver of progress.
