The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has given a historic opinion that confirms countries have a legal duty to protect the world’s climate. The ruling is being called one of the most important moments in international law. But for Melanesia, it also marks a proud achievement: the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) made sure that Indigenous peoples and colonized communities had their voices heard at the highest court in the world.
