Exploring human rights issues through movies and talanoa in the Pacific

Pacific Community (SPC), 19 October 2025 , International

The 5th Pacific Human Rights Film Festival (PHRFF), which took place from 25 August to 18 October, across the Pacific region, brought together around 3,300 people to watch movies and talanoa on the themes of ‘Loss, Damage, Resilience, Restoration’.

This free annual festival - open to all - brings human rights to the big screen, and provides a space for Pacific people to engage with these stories and build their awareness about human rights issues in the Pacific region and beyond. Story telling through movies and talanoa (discussions) on the issues depicted in the films have the power to open people's minds to new perspectives.
