Strategic Plan Review 2010-2013 Public Consultation

Strategic Plan Review 2010-2013 Public Consultation
Creative New Zealand is working towards setting our plan for the next three years. As a result of the significant changes we have made over the past three years we are planning to roll over our current Strategic Plan 2007-2010.

The Strategic Plan 2010-2013 will take effect from 1 July 2010. It will present long and short term arts development outcomes that Creative New Zealand aims to contribute to over 2010-2013. These outcomes will set out how Creative New Zealand will contribute to a flourishing arts environment in New Zealand.

Public consultation
Recently we asked for submissions from New Zealanders on the strategic direction of Creative New Zealand. The draft plan which submitters responded to can be viewed here: Creative New Zealand draft Strategic Plan 2010-2013 (Word 140Kb).

Results and Response
The 2010 to 2013 period will give rise to a healthy tension between continuity and new opportunities and direction. We believe that the outcomes we have set out in the draft Strategic Plan 2010-13 are sound, and your feedback confirms this.

Responses to the draft Strategic Plan 2010-2013 confirm that Creative New Zealand must also keep looking to the future and address issues of keen interest to the arts community that have the potential to impact on society.

Research from the 2008 survey on New Zealanders' attitudes, attendance and participation in the arts points to the significant long term benefits from engaging young people in the arts. We also know that there are untapped opportunities in community arts and the new and emerging arts practices that have digital technologies and the internet at their core.

It is clear that the population of New Zealand is rapidly changing and will continue to change, with growing and younger Pacific, Māori and Asian populations that will increasingly look to Creative New Zealand to support their artistic aspirations.

You can expect to see Creative New Zealand working hard to secure more resources. At the same time, we will be looking hard at the areas we already invest in to ensure that we are spending public money wisely. We look forward to a productive and engaging 2010-2013 in which, with the support of New Zealanders, we will continue to advocate, fund and nurture the arts environment of New Zealand.
