Culture as a catalyst for creativity and innovation

In the framework of the 2941st Education, Youth and Culture meeting, the Council of the EU adopted a policy paper on creativity. The document underlines the importance of creativity in the creation of new jobs and in the promotion of synergies between the cultural sector and other ones.

The paper invites the Commission to further explore the close links between culture, creativity and economic performance. Speaking after leading the UK delegation for the first time at the Culture Council in Brussels, Scottish Government Minister for Culture, External Affairs and the Constitution Michael Russell, underlined the vigour of Scotland’s creative sector with strong growth potential and positively commented the European policies in terms of identifying gaps and ensuring the effective support to creative industries.

According to his speech, the Scottish Government intends to reinforce its contribution to the debate in Europe, both in terms of experience and innovative thinking, and provide a new impetus for Scotland's arts sectors and creative industries.
