Framework for the Welfare of Animals Presented in the Arts
The Arts Council presents a new document on animal welfare in the arts
The European Parliament in 2005 noted that classical circus, which includes the presentation of live animals, was part of European culture and should be further supported as such. However, it must be emphasised that the Framework for the Welfare of Animals Presented in the Arts applies not only to circus but to any other artform that incorporates live animals in its presentation.
The document, mindful of applicable legislation and good practice, strives to ensure that the welfare needs of all such animals are met. It sets forth policy, creates obligations, and provides information and guidance to entities featuring animals in their arts activities who seek funding from the Arts Council.
