YEAR-END REVIEW 2008 - Ministry of Culture
The mandate of Ministry of Culture is to preserve and promote all forms of art and culture. Along with programmes for the preservation of India’s ancient heritage, the activities of the Ministry encourage and disseminate the variety of contemporary creative arts as well. During the year 2008, the Ministry with its 2 Attached Offices (ASI & NAI), 6 Subordinate Offices, 33 Autonomous Organizations and 2 Missions (National Mission for Manuscripts and National Mission on Monuments & Antiquities) have worked ceaselessly to generate cultural awareness at the grass-root level and promote cultural exchanges at the national and international levels. While numerous activities were taken by the Ministry, the significant events are highlighted.
