Protection of Traditional Cultural Expressions and Traditional Knowledge: Gap Analyses

At its twelfth session, which took place from February 25 to 29, 2008, the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore agreed that the WIPO Secretariat should make available in draft form two documents constituting gap analyses on the protection of traditional cultural expressions/expressions of folklore and on the protection of traditional knowledge. According to the Committee’s decision, participants in the Committee would have the opportunity to comment on the drafts before June 30, 2008, after which a final draft of the document would be published by August 15, 2008 for consideration by the Committee at its thirteenth session.

The first drafts of the required ‘gap analyses’ are available by following the links below. The analyses, with amendments and additions as required, will be circulated as documents WIPO/GRTKF/IC/13/4(b) and WIPO/GRTKF/IC/13/5(b) respectively for the further review of Member States and observers at the thirteenth session of the Committee, which will take place from October 13 to 17, 2008.
