Quality of life and well-being: Review and thinkpiece

Objectives: To address key issues regarding the contribution of culture and sport to quality of life and well-being, highlighting those issues that arise in attempting to measure these concepts. Key Findings: The key question to be asked is whether the indicators which are being developed within wider policy debates on the quality of life of communities might be extended to measuring the impact of culture and sport on quality of life and well-being. A small but growing cultural policy literature has started to address this issue. While policy in the UK has focused on measuring the impact of culture and sport on the economy and on issues and aspects of social exclusion, elsewhere approaches can be found starting with the assumption that it is a given that these activities bring with them social and economic benefit which, in turn, improves quality of life. The authors suggest how the Scottish Executive might take forward the issue of developing indicators, building on the conclusions of the literature review. To view the publication, CLICK HERE.
