The Performing Arts Spread Out: Geography of Performing Arts Organisations

The 1992 Census of Service Industries counted 12,286 performing arts organizations, up from 9,271 organizations counted in 1987. The 1992 count included 2,961 tax-exempt (nonprofit) organizations and 9,325 taxable organizations. Performing arts organizations were counted in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia (DC).
