The Ministry of Culture publishes an Internet portal dedicated to vocabulary of Spain's cultural heritage
Through the website Tesauros del Patrimonio Cultural de España
(http://tesauros.mcu.es/index.htm) 5,800 definitions used to describe cultural heritage can be accessed.
In this first version vocabulary used to describe furniture, coins and ceramics can be found.
The Ministry of Culture has published the online Thesaurus of Cultural Heritage of Spain with the aim of raising awareness of the richness of the cultural heritage of Spain through the vocabulary used for identification, classification, description and cataloging. This tool provides access to 5,800 definitions.
Thesauri are systems of knowledge organization based on a dynamic controlled vocabulary of terms related to each other and applied to a field of study, in this case cultural heritage.
This web portal is integrated into the Networked Collections (Colecciones en Red), a microsite for the dissemination of knowledge about cultural heritage in museums, which offers citizens an open and free space, dedicated Spanish museum collections.
In this first version vocabulary can be found that is used to describe furniture, coins and ceramics, as well as all the constituent material of these objects and useful for the documentation of cultural property. In the coming months it is hoped that its contents will be enriched with vocabulary used to describe objects associated with rites, rituals and beliefs and a wide geographical thesaurus.
The use of these thesauri in information systems and for the dissemination of cultural heritage vocabulary allows for standardization between cultural institutions and ensures swift and thorough recovery and exchange of information. With this technical and scientific vocabulary the Ministry is committed to research and technological innovation in culture and contributes to increased quality of online digital content in Spanish.
