Voluntary Arts Week

From choirs to quilters, dancers to drummers, over 2 million people have discovered just how fun and fulfilling getting involved in arts and crafts can be.

Taking place from Friday, 6 May until Saturday 14 May 2011, Voluntary Arts Week is a chance to celebrate all the wonderful activity taking place across Scotland. Hosted by Voluntary Arts Scotland, it is also an opportunity for groups across the country to hold taster sessions, open rehearsals, outdoor events and more and to share their enthusiasm and enjoyment with other people – and inspire them to get involved, too.

Voluntary Arts Week is part of the People Making Waves ‘Make a Splash’ programme which is supported by Legacy Trust UK and the National Lottery through Creative Scotland. The project will create a lasting cultural legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games across Scotland.

Why not use Voluntary Arts Week as a chance to try out something new?  It could inspire you to think even bigger and apply for Make a Splash! funding of £250-£2,000 to increase participation in your group longer term.  Click here to read more about it.

Fiona Campbell, Executive Officer at Voluntary Arts Scotland said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to get the first ever Voluntary Arts Week off the ground. The response so far from around the country has been great, with activities happening from the Western Isles to the Central Belt.

‘Our Celebration Event, beside the big screen Live Site in Festival Square, Edinburgh will give people a free opportunity to try their hand at different crafts or see some of the many performing arts groups they could join. Or they could simply come along and be entertained!”
