A new charter for cultural patronage
April 20, Frederic Mitterrand signed with Jean-François Bernardin, President of ACFCI (Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry), a new charter for the development of cultural patronage.
Cultural patronage: factor in competitiveness and excellence. The preamble of the charter signed on 20 April by Frederic Mitterrand and Jean-François Bernardin, President of the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said, "The attractiveness of the country and the good health of the French tourism industry rely heavily on the high quality of France’s cultural heritage, be it historical or recent, be it physical or intangible. In addition to the intervention of the state and of communities, conservation and development of this heritage can no longer be conceived without the participation of all individuals and businesses. [...] In international competition, culture is more than ever a factor in the attractiveness of France and its territories, for those who want to work, invest and develop their talents here. "
A first charter. On March 15, 2005, a Charter for the development of sponsorship had been signed for a period of three years between the Minister of Culture and Communication and Chairman of the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The objectives were to:
- To appoint a "Patronage correspondent" in each of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI);
- Develop awareness among entrepreneurs of the incentive schemes of the Law of 1 August 2003 and the benefits of cultural sponsorship;
- Promote contacts between the ICC and cultural actors of their territories and communicate best practice examples of partnerships.
A new impetus. Taking note of the significant development of cultural patronage in France since the implementation of the Act of 1 August 2003 and anxious to support this development, the Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry have decided to sign for the coming five years, a second charter for the development of national cultural patronage, continuing work already started and developing new goals.
The new charter provides for:
- Replace regional and departmental plans with the national protocol
- Continue the dissemination alongside entrepreneurs of the incentive schemes of the Act of 1 August 2003 and benefits of cultural patronage
- Promote collective sponsorship
- Organize meetings and events conducive to the promotion of cultural patronage
- To raise awareness of patronage within the network of CCI schools
