Spanish and British experts discuss innovation and cultural creativity

The meeting, held today in Madrid, has been inaugurated by the Ministers of Culture of Spain and Britain

Ministers of Culture of Spain and Britain, and Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde respectively Ben Bradshaw, today launched the British Hispanic Forum XIII. This meeting, in which experts from both countries took part, was held throughout the morning at the headquarters of the British Embassy in Madrid, under the theme Innovation and Creativity in the World of Culture.

This forum has served as a reflection on the eve of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union on the role of culture in economic growth, employment and innovation and competitiveness in Europe in today's times of crisis, all of them which constitute a substantial part of the EU agenda.

The central issues dealt with were: innovation in cultural activity in times of crisis, the impact of innovation in the creative industries (telecommunications, fashion, gaming, design), and the cultural and economic value of Spanish and English languages.

Speakers intellectuals, academics, designers and cultural managers participated including: John Howkins, of the London School of Economics, Carlos Berzosa, Rector of the Universidad Complutense; Ana Lledó, British Telecom, Ana Gonzalez, Ana Locking, Gonzalo Suarez, President of Avirago-game creators, David Delfin, designer, Rod Pryde, Director British Council, Ivor Roberts, President of Trinity College, and Carmen Caffarel, Director of Instituto Cervantes.
