Installation of new Commissioner of Culture in the U.S.
In a november ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in New York, Carlos Humberto Sanchez Morel, the new Dominican Commissioner for Culture for America was sworn into office.
Sanchez, a renowned dramatist and cultural activist, called for arts and cultural groups to present proposals within his action plan and said that he aspires that there could be "an active integration between the Commissions programs and all arts sectors currently giving cultural life in the city. "
Among the attendees who packed the Andres Francisco Requena room of the Commission, were the Dominican Consul in New York, Rafael Evans, who was at the table of honor, the president of the Dominican Liberation Party in New York, Professor Frank Cortorreal, Isidro Martinez alternating ambassador, Francisco Fernandez, Minister without Portfolio, and León Félix Batista, director of the National Editor.
In addition, there were also present poets, Karina Rielke and Jorge Pina, Felix Garcia of Trazarte, Lucila Rutinel, author Dinorah Coronado; Yolany Rodriguez, Teatro Las Tablas, Fernando Ocampo, the Art Critics Association, as well as, cultural delegations and representatives from various institutions and political groups.
The Dominican Commission of Culture in America, based in New York, was created by President Leonel Fernández in 2004, with the aim of promoting cultural activities in the big city as well, in Boston, New Jersey, Miami, Chicago, Washington and other states of the North American Union.
Morel Carlos Humberto Sanchez was appointed to the position by Decree No. 578-9 of President Leonel Fernández.
