The Ministry of Culture presents an austere balanced budget, in solidarity with other sectors

The Department will have a total budget of 867.2 million euros with the objective to focus on strengthening innovative in cultural industries, to ensure access to culture and support institutional collaboration and international cooperation.

The Minister of Culture, Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde, today presented data from the department's budget for 2010 which will be 867.2 million euros.

It is an austere budget that jointly contributes to the policy of containment of public spending announced by the Prime Minister. However, the budget is balanced, responsible and supports the implementation of the main objectives of the Ministry that focus on: Strengthening the cultural and creative industries, ensuring citizens' access to culture, collaboration, cooperation and dissemination of the cultures of Spain and optimization of resources and greater flexibility and automation of internal management.

Of the total 867.2 million euros, 558.6 million are allocated to individual agencies, broken down as follows:

- INAEM: 169 M €
- ICAA: 120.5 M €
- Management of Infrastructure: 119.1 M €
- Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia: 54.9 M €
- National Library: 47,6 M €
- Museo del Prado: 47.5 M €.


Program Budget
The breakdown of the budget of Ministry program is as follows:

- Co-promotion and diffusion outside: 19.2 M. €
- Archives: 52.8 M €
- Libraries: 95.6 M. €
- Museums: 220.2 M. €
- Promotion and cultural cooperation: 37.6 M. €
- Book Promotion and Public. Cultural: 14.2 M. €
- Promoting Cultural Industries: 29.6 M. €
- Music and Dance: 116,2 M. €
- Theater: 50.2 M. €
- Cinematography: 123,1 M. €
- Conserve. Restaurac. Cultural Property: 39.4 M. €
- Heritage Protection: 11.5 M. €
- Other programs (Serv. General, Exhibitions, etc..): 57.4 M. €


Support for sectors
The Ministry allocated 112.4 million to support creation representing a growth of 11% compared to 2009.

- Music and Dance: 6.53 million euros: (+16.2%)
- Theater: 7.01 million euro (+3.24%)
- General: 89,393: (+1.58%)
- Fine Arts and Historical Heritage: 1.3 million euros (+54%)
- Books: 8.2 million euros (+8.7%)

Support for innovative enterprises has increased EUR 10.4 million which represents a 84,75% more than last year:

- Action and cultural promotion: 3.15 million euros: (+47.2%)
- Training professionals: 970.000 euros (+94%)
- Scholarships: 1.2 million euros (+20%)
- Investment grants: 3.2 million euros (+60%)
- Supply network security (new): 1.9 million 

 Cultural heritage more accessible
In order to promote cultural tourism and facilitate citizen access to historical and artistic heritage, the Ministry has made an investment effort by allocating 7.34 million euros, representing a 93.2 per cent more than in 2009. In addition, shares are allocated for specific groups such as young, CERMI (the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities) and the ONCE.

- Grants and Training: 312.000 euros
- Investment in new technologies: 1,481,000 euros
- Support to promote cultural tourism: 490.000 euros
- Via de la Plata: 225.000 euros
- World Heritage Cities: 270.000 euros
- Project dissemination and conservation of World Heritage properties: EUR 2,290,000
- Canal Cultura TVE: € 1.540.000
- Miscellaneous: 735.000 euros

It will comply with the commitments of the Government's cultural infrastructure, continuing with projects such as the National Archaeological Museum, with a budget for 2010 of EUR 8.3 million, the Center for Restoration and Conservation of Film resources (in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid) endowed with € 5.7 million or Customs Palace Museum in Malaga, with a budget of 5.6 million.

In terms of cultural infrastructure put in place, the budget for 2010 is:
- National Center for the Visual Arts (located in the old building of Tabacalera in Madrid): 1 million euros.
- Center of Historical Memory in Salamanca: 1.6 million.
- National Center for the Performing Arts and Music History in Leon: with 0.8 million.
- National Center for Fashion and Design (in Matadero Madrid): 3.5 million.
- Teatro de la Comedia, with 3 million.

Institutional collaboration and international cooperation
Another commitment of the Ministry of Culture is to ensure and strengthen collaboration with the Autonomous Communities to allocate EUR 673.9 million. Regarding international cooperation, envisaged an investment of 12 million euros and 2.5 million for the chairmanship of Spain in the European Union in the first half of 2010.
