Meeting of international experts on cultural funding
On March 12-13, in Santiago, IFACCA’s 23rd board meeting will take place. Chile has been part of the Federation since the year 2007 through its National Culture and Arts Council (CNCA).
The meeting will deal with internal matters of the Federation and its board members will also learn about CNCA’s experience funding the arts. Leonardo Ordóñez, head or CNCA’s Artistic Creation Department, will talk about their current programs and projects, and Óscar Agüero, Executive Secretary, will make a presentation of Chile’s Cultural Donation Law.
IFACCA is an international organization made up of national public bodies (national members) and affiliate members that have to do or are interested in cultural and artistic development and thus in its funding and promotion. It was created in December 2000 at the First World Summit of Arts and Culture and has 66 members from Africa, America, Asia and Europe.
Its mission is “to create an international resource and meeting ground for all those whose public responsibility is to support excellence and diversity in artistic endeavor”, and some of its objectives are to strengthen the capacity of arts councils and national culture agencies to meet the challenges and opportunities of globalization and technological change, and to encourage support for arts practice and cultural diversity.”
The Federation is interested in supporting Latin American countries in the projects they are planning to celebrate de Independence bicentennials with information and research projects. Currently, among other projects, it is working, jointly with the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Culture and Science (OEI), in the Ibero-American version of ConnectCP (http://www.oei.es/noticias/spip.php?article2904)
