The new subsidy system for the arts
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) has developed a new system for subsidising cultural institutions. There is less political interference in subsidy decisions under the new system; such decisions are largely left to the cultural sector.
In this way professionals play a greater role. A large proportion of the subsidy decisions has been transferred to the cultural funds. These funds are ideally suited to the job, given that they have at their disposal the expertise and the network necessary to closely follow and assess developments in their sectors.
