Former Arts Council Director dies aged 85
It is with sadness that the Arts Council notes the death of one of its previous directors.
Pamela Rogers joined the Arts Council of Northern Ireland during the early years of The Troubles, in 1972. She became Director of Music and oversaw many of the Arts Council’s artform specific projects, many of which were organised “in house” in those days - such as, for example, the Ulster Orchestra. Her special interest in Opera helped to define the establishment of Opera Northern Ireland in 1985. She retired in November 1988. Very much a citizen of her era, Pamela had a special enthusiasm for the music of Benjamin Britten – making an annual pilgrimage without fail to the Aldeburgh Festival. She died on Sunday 30th November 2008, aged 85.
