10 years as cultural ambassador in southern Africa
Pro Helvetia is celebrating the 10th birthday of its liaison office in Cape Town. Since 1998 it has initiated and seen through some 500 projects in the areas of dance, theatre, music, literature, film and the visual arts. To mark the anniversary we are presenting here in Switzerland some highlights of this creative cooperation between Switzerland and southern Africa.
Pro Helvetia Cape Town has been bringing together artists from the whole of southern Africa and Switzerland since 1998. As a cultural institute with a focus on contemporary art, Pro Helvetia Cape Town (www.prohelvetia.org.za) has supported projects in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia and Madagascar. The events have found a wide audience among people from a wide range of cultural origins. A mandate from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has made possible additional co-productions with local partners.
