Music industry – signing of an historic agreement between corporate partners
Music industry: Christine Albanel, Minister of Culture and Communication, celebrates the signing of an historic agreement between corporate partners.
Following negotiations that have been taking place since October 2002, under the guidance of the Minister for Work, to whom Christine Albanel pays tribute, corporate music industry partners have come to an historic, and now unanimous agreement which was officially signed on the 30th of June. The group of organisations representing employees and the two employers’ organisations have signed it, or will be signing it in the coming days.
The domain of this agreement is particularly large, since it takes into account both the conditions and remuneration of work, as well as short-term work, and even the financing and access to professional development, and planning.
This text, which fills a contractual hole which has existed for over 15 years, radically modernises the social relationships in the music industry, and contributes to its cultural diversity:
- From now on, in addition to remuneration, musicians will receive, over and above the base income, a share in turnover profits and a percentage of the rights collected by the producers – this innovative plan is unequalled in Europe.
- An additional protocol facilitates the usage of the oldest recordings, in the communal interest of musicians and producers
- Consumers will equally be winners, since this protocol permits them to access untapped works which rest in shop catalogues
At a particularly difficult time for the music industry, which has lost half of its turnover over the last 6 years, Christine Albanel highlights that the agreement is a decisive modernisation tool for companies from this sector. What the Minister celebrates even more from this agreement is the success of the negotiation driven by the corporate partners who have fully taken on the objectives of the support plan for the music industry, which she launched, at the request of the President of the Republic, and announced during MIDEM 2008.
