Pros and cons of folk culture promotion
On 16 May, Pro Helvetia invited representatives from the worlds of politics, cultural promotion and folk culture to Lenzburg castle for a debate on the pros and cons of public financial support for folk culture. Speakers from Austria and Denmark described the situation and experiences of their respective countries.
Should folk culture receive support from public arts funding? From whom and by what criteria? How did and how do institutions promoting the arts deal with non-professional practitioners? What support does folk culture receive in Germany, Denmark and Austria? And why this resurgence of interest in folk culture today? These are some of the key questions discussed at the one-day conference on cultural policy in Schloss Lenzburg on 16 May 2008. Guests invited included representatives from the worlds of politics, public and private arts promotion, folk culture associations and other cultural organisations.
All the presentations of this conference, which was organised within the framework of the «echoes» programme, can be accessed via the link below.
