Study into free museum entry

‘Free entry to museums and monuments: what do French visitors think?’. On this theme, which is very present in thinking on cultural policy, the Department of Research, Forecasts and Statistics (DEPS) of the Ministry of Culture and Communication has just published a summary of a study on ‘acceptance of experiments’, announced Philippe Chantepie, head of DEPS.

The study was carried out by Anne Gomabult, Caroline Urbain, Dominique Bourgeon-Renault, Marine Le Gall-Ely and Chrstine Petr, and explains the complexity of visitor perceptions of free entry. From what angle should it be judged? A cultural angle? In terms of marketing? Or in economic terms? ‘[the report] also explains that the price of culture, even [when] equal to zero, is primarily a question of values’ concludes Philippe Chantepie.
