Arts sector called on in search for new Chairman

The Philippines cultural sector has been asked to submit nominations for a new chairman for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
A committee to act as a search committee for the NCCA Chairman will submit to the NCCA Board a shortlist of candidates for the final selection process that will be made through an election by the Board. To ensure a truly democratic and enligtened process of selecting the new Chairman, the entire culture and arts community are enjoined to submit nominations for the search of the NCCA chairman. Nominations may be made only by the following groups:

  1. Institutions involved in culture and arts: i.e universities, government institutions not holding seats in the NCCA Board.
  2. Non-government organizations involved in culture and arts: i.e. nationwide arts councils, corporations, foundations, etc;
  3. National Committees of the NCCA.

The Chairman is envisioned as one who will provide exemplary leadership to the entire culture and arts community. As such, the nominee should possess the following:

  1. Integrity - he/she must have unquestionable character and spotless leadership record in the public or private sector;
  2. Stature - he/she must be recognized for his/her achievements and respected by members of the arts and culture sector;
  3. Knowledge of Arts and Culture - he/she must possess clear knowledge and understanding of issues, needs, and concerns of the Arts and Culture sector;
  4. Organizational ability - he/she must have an experience in organizational management and have a clear vision for the organization development of the NCCA; and
  5. Leadership - he/she must possess excellent leadership qualities befitting that of the head of the leading cultural agency of the land.
