Book promotion spreads the word on reading

The Minister for the Arts and Sport Senator the Hon George Brandis, SC, has launched the fifth annual Books Alive campaign at the Australian Book Industry Awards in Sydney. "Books Alive aims to introduce – or reintroduce – all Australians to the simple joy of opening a brand new book. We look forward to more Australians reading during the coming month," Senator Brandis said. Books Alive 2007 ambassador, the popular author and commentator Peter FitzSimons, will also attend the event before embarking on a national promotional tour. More than 260,000 copies of his commissioned title The Ballad of Les Darcy, a biography of the legendary Australian boxer, will be given away free with any of the 50 titles in the 2007 Books Alive Great Read Guide during the campaign. Books Alive is an Australian Government initiative that aims to encourage all Australians to discover the joys of reading. It is developed through the Australia Council for the Arts and supported by the local book industry. For more information, CLICK HERE.
