Arts Council England has appointed three new directors to its literature, theatre and arts strategy teams. The Director of the Women’s Library at London Metropolitan University, Antonia Byatt, will become Director, Literature Strategy. Pointing out that “the Arts Council has a vital role to play in Literature at all levels,” she is “looking forward to building on the achievements of recent times and putting into place a strategy that develops the fantastic opportunities presented by digital technology, while continuing to support and encourage new and established readers and writers.” Freelance arts consultant, theatre producer and trainer, Barbara Matthews, has been appointed Director, Theatre Strategy. “Theatre has been one of the outstanding success stories of the last ten years,” she said. “It’s vital we don’t take our eye off the ball if we want theatre to continue to thrive and develop. We need to reach new audiences and to support and inspire all those who work in and care deeply about theatre.” Currently Head of Policy and Planning at the Tate, Anna Jobson becomes the Council’s first Director of Arts Strategy. She is “very excited to be joining Arts Council England during a period of change for the arts in this country, with growing diversity and increased public participation in, and knowledge of, the arts. These changes present us with new and important opportunities for the Arts Council continuing to take the lead in championing the arts across the country.” For more information, CLICK HERE
