New Zealand Gets Bookish
Creative New Zealand and Booksellers New Zealand are getting set to launch the inaugural New Zealand Book Month. A website competition, several new book releases, celebrity picks, blogs, podcasts and a prize draw for Bookseller Tokens are some of the reasons why Project Director Phil Twyford says New Zealanders “won’t be able to miss New Zealand Book Month”. A key feature of the 18 September launch – to be held simultaneously in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch – will be colourful 2.4 metre-high bookshelves, into which New Zealanders of every stamp will be encouraged to place their favourite for charity. The first 50 people to donate a book in each city will receive a complimentary copy of The Six Pack – an anthology of new writing specificaly published to celebrate New Zealand Book Month. The identitities of the (both emerging and established) authors, who were selected partly via an online poll, will be announced on 18 September. Each will receive a $5000 prize.
