Culture Appointment in France

France’s Minister for Culture and Communication, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, has appointed Jean de Saint-Guilhem as Director of Music, Dance, Theatre and Spectacles. Replacing Jerome Bouët (who is to manage cultural affairs in Rhône-Alpes region), de Saint-Guilhem is charged with giving new energy to the multi-disciplinary portfolio, and with making its activities more comprehensible. Currently vice president of the Orchestra des Champs Elysées, 45-year-old de Saint-Guilhem is a multi-disciplinary artist in his own right. A pupil of Nicole Henriot Schweitzer, he has given many solo chamber and choral music concerts, written plays on Clara and Robert Schumann, and produced a fantasy on birds for la Péniche Opéra. The new Director was appointed as a principal private secretary of Henri Plagnol, Minister in Charge of the State reform, in 2002, and has been advising the Cabinet on Culture since 2004. He has just completed a mission with the president of Radio France on the development of cultural partnerships within the network France Bleu. For more information (in French), CLICK HERE
