Australia Council scopes new media

The Australia Council for the Arts has commenced a scoping study of New Media Arts to aid future planning for the sector. The Council has established a New Media Art Scoping Study Advisory Group to investigate the multi-arts sector, gathering data on funding and other support offered to new media art and artists over the last decade. The information will be used to identify key trends and pinpoint opportunities to bolster support for new media art. Dr Elaine Lally from the Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney will helm the first stage of research. She will assisted by Advisory Group members: Fiona Winning (Director, Performance Space), Melinda Rackham (Executive Director, Australian Network for Art and Technology), Julian Knowles (Music Board member), Lesley Alway (Chair, Visual Arts Board), Andrew Donovan (Director, Inter-Arts) and Ben Strout (Executive Director, Arts Development). Direct input from the sector will be sought via a discussion paper and state-based focus groups. The discussion paper will be available on the Australia Council website from Wednesday 12 July. Final results of the scoping study are expected to be presented to the Australia Council's governing body at its September meeting. For more information, CLICK HERE.
