NEA launches nation-wide literature program

The National Endowment for the Arts is launching a new initiative which will offer Americans the largest book club in the nation. NEA is hoping that The Big Read will increase reading across the nation, with 100 grants offered to cities. A decline in reading was reported in 2004, and this opportunity will bring citizens together to read and discuss literary works. NEA Chairman Dana Gioia said: "We want people of all ages across the country to enjoy the social aspects of reading and the enthusiasm that's generated by discussing a good book in a library, with a neighbor, a classmate, or a co-worker. I'm not a betting man, but I'd wager those who join The Big Read will be hooked on the joys of great literature." For more information, CLICK HERE.
