France launches new project

France, Spain and Hungary have launched a new proposal to create a list of European heritage. The proposal came after the Cultural Europe Meetings in Paris in 2005, and a speech of the French Prime Minister in Salzburg in January 2006. Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, French Minister of Culture, Carmen Calvo, Spanish Minister of Culture, and András Bozóki, Hungarian Minister of Culture, signed a detailed agreement. The list of sites will be based on the model of the classification of UNESCO’s Humanity World Heritage. The recording of European Heritage aims at reinforcing the feeling of belonging in European citizens and the attraction of tourists to the places of history and creation. This subject will be discussed on May 18 during the Council of Ministers of Culture in Brussels. A technical meeting will take place later in Paris in July. A first list of sites will be proposed in autumn 2006 during a meeting in Lublin (Poland). For more information, in French, CLICK HERE.
