Australia council launches two new initiatives

The Australia Council for the Arts has announced a new three-year initiative for script development, putting aside $330,000 for a national program. Another $300,000 has been set aside for visual artists. The funds will be used from 2007 to 2009, marking a 35% increase in funding for organisations and scriptwriters. Australia Council Director of Theatre, John Baylis, said: "We are significantly increasing our investment in writing for performance through this initiative, and we are asking the two current national organisations to tell us how they could use these extra resources to create a better environment for script development in Australia." Visual artists will receive $300,000 in an initiative designed to help them go from creation to market, with three individuals getting $30,000 grants. The artists will use the money to commercialise their artwork, and the program will run over the next two years. For more information, CLICK HERE and HERE.
