N. Ireland arts council meets delegation from Malta
A government delegation from Malta recently visited the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, to further develop cultural links. The Permanent Secretary to the Maltese Minister for Culture and Tourism visited the council's Belfast headquarters, as well as meeting representatives of Department of Culture Arts and Leisure. Ties with Malta have been growing stronger since the start of phase two of a partnership scheme in 2002. Northern Ireland artists were taken to perform at the Maltese cultural festival, 'Up Close', and was followed by an ongoing literature exchange program. Roisin McDonough, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, "Artists and arts organisations in Northern Ireland currently benefit from a range of Arts Council schemes which create opportunities for international experience and exposure. Based on the success of these schemes, we would like to develop our range of travel awards, residencies and international showcase events, and we are confident that our discussions with the Maltese delegation will indeed yield significant new opportunities for artists from Northern Ireland."
