Arts Council England, East appoints leader for children's theatre
Following a nationally advertised tender process, a new organisation has been selected to lead the provision of Theatre for Young People (TYP) in the East of England. This opportunity to drive forward the sector in the region has been created in response to the findings of an independent review of the theatre provision for children and young people in the East of England commissioned by Arts Council England, East. The new organisation, with the working title ‘Vertical Horizons’, has been set up by Tim Freathy, Stuart Mullins and Gill Bloomfield from Snap. “The successful organisation impressed us with their dynamic attitude and enthusiasm. Their strategic approach to advocacy and partnership working will not only generate high quality opportunities for children and young people within our region, but also raise the profile of the sector on a regional and national level. They presented their innovative plans with real passion and we are very excited about working with them, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, to secure the best possible future for TYP in the East of England," said Helen Lax, Director Arts and Development, Arts Council England, East. Stuart Mullins: “We want to make a difference. The review questioned issues surrounding leadership, profile and quality. In partnership with our stakeholders, regional producers and the young people of the East of England our intervention will invigorate a regional ecology of theatre makers for young people. By creating great new theatre and enabling partnerships with the best - regionally, nationally and internationally - our mission is that by 2012 the region will be rich in cultural opportunity, its young people artistically empowered, ambitiously reaching for the sky."
