French Ministry opens Cultural Economy Week
France's ministry for culture and communication organised the first edition of "Cultural Economy Week," at the George Pompidou National Centre for Art and Culture, during the 12th and 13th of January, 2006. Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, Minister of culture and communication, inaugurated this cultural week, which had as its subject: "Creation and diversity in the mirror of cultural industries". Their objective was to look further into the answers to the following questions: Can one still conceive today an economy of art, which is not immersed in the economy of cultural industries? Do cultural enterprises differ from all other enterprises? How does one reach cultural content today? Which types of regulations might be necessary to achieve the following goals of cultural policy: creation, democratisation, and diversity? Academics, researchers specialised in the economy of cultural industries, senior officials of the ministry for culture and communication, and representatives of the authorities for regulation will develop and exchange their analyses. This first edition of Cultural Economy Week is addressed to professionals and researchers as well as agents of the ministry for culture and communication responsible for the implementation of cultural policy.
