UK’s first National Centre for Carnival Arts launched

The National Centre for Carnival Arts was launched recently as £6.2 million was raised to create the Centre. Launched by the Luton Carnival Arts Development Trust, they received funding from Arts Council England, East, the East of England Development Agency, ERDF Objective 2 and Luton Borough Council. Keynote speakers addressed the role the Centre will play in the development of carnival as an international art form; the initiative was set up two years ago to address education, social and community issues. The centre is set for completion in 2007. Andrea Stark, Executive Director of Arts Council England, East commented: “This is a very important moment for Arts Council England, East and all the Carnival Centre’s stakeholders, the green light for a pioneering arts facility of international significance, located here in the East of England. We are thrilled that this leading example of urban regeneration, supported by such a comprehensive partnership, will allow local people to work with professional artists and arts organisations and help to realise the potential of carnival arts nationally and internationally.” For more information, CLICK HERE.
