French Ministry releases culture budget

The French Ministry for Culture and Communications has released its budget for 2006. With a total of nearly €3 billion budgeted for 2006, the Ministry's budget will be 4.9 percent higher than in 2005. Coupled with a 13 percent saving on the Ministry's operational costs, the increase has allowed the Ministry to increase financial support across a range of arts areas, including a 12.7 percent increase for live perfomances, and the setting aside of €400,000 for a European digital library. The Ministry also reports an 11 percent increase for local film-making from cinema tax credits. The Minister's budget announcement can be found (in French) HERE.
