£3.1m grant to N Wales centre world leader

Denbighshire County Council in Wales has received £3.1 million from the Arts Council of Wales for the continuing transformation of the Ruthin Craft Centre. The lottery grant will allow the centre to become an international place for artists, in what is the biggest lottery grant made by the ACW. Philip Hughes, Director Ruthin Craft Centre, says: “The £3.1m grant from The Arts Council of Wales means that we can realise our dream to give the people of Denbighshire a world class craft centre that will benefit the whole nation of Wales. The improved venue will provide a unique platform to show inspirational international applied arts. This award is a vindication of our programme of access to excellence for all”. Alun Pugh, Welsh Assembly Minister for Culture, says: “Wales has a strong tradition of arts and crafts and the transformation of Ruthin Craft Centre will put Wales firmly on the contemporary crafts map. The Assembly Government is committed to providing museums and galleries fit for the twenty first century and the developments at Ruthin will give wider access to world class contemporary applied arts.” For more information, CLICK HERE.
