Libya in trouble over satellites
Both Britain and the US have complained to Libya officials after two international satellites were illegally jammed. TV, radio and other communication channels were affected, including digital broadcasts by CNN International, BBC World, US sports channels and US military and diplomatic channels. The Foreign Office in London confirmed that British embassy officials had talked to the Libyan government, after the jamming, which is reported to have started on 19th September 2005, after a small British/Arab owned commercial radio began broadcasting on human rights and freedom of speech. The transponder that carried the station was jammed for 50 minutes, 10 minutes after the station went on air. The interference stopped once the station ceased broadcasting.
