Attorney General still considering resale royalty

The Australian Government is in discussion about whether to introduce a resale royalty on secondary visual art sales. The decision has been postponed until next year, despite the fact that Attorney-General Philip Ruddock had said that the decision would be made by Christmas 2005. The Attorney-General has been working with the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, and the decision has been on the drawing board since 2002, when Rupert Myer recommended it in a federally commissioned report on the visual arts and craft sector. Opposition arts spokesman Peter Garrett has said that it is an urgent matter, to be dealt with now. For more information, CLICK HERE.
