Partnership agreement to benefit Welsh arts
IFACCA/Artshub, 29 July 2005,United Kingdom
Arts Council Wales and Welsh Local Authorities have signed a formal partnership in order to better promote the arts in Wales.
During the recent Arts Council Wales annual conference, a strategic partnership agreement was signed by senior representatives of both organisations. The agreement set out a shared vision that expresses how collaboration will achieve ‘more for audiences, participants and their own employees.’
The following obligations are at the heart of the partnership agreement:
WLGA will ensure that culture is championed at all levels of local government.
ACW will ensure enhanced local government representation on its three regional committees.
Each local authority will identify an officer to liaise with ACW and stimulate artistic activity throughout the work of the authority.
Emlyn Davies, spokesperson for Culture and Language at WLGA said: “We embrace this partnership as a means to drive forward the arts and promote social and cultural change. Increasingly, local authorities are recognising that the arts both enhance the lives of the communities they serve and help deliver wider social and economic objectives. The arts economy also plays a major role in creating jobs in cultural tourism and the creative industries. In the face of an uncertain financial future it’s therefore important that we cement our relationship with The Arts Council of Wales.”
Geraint Talfan Davies, Chairman of The Arts Council of Wales, welcomed the formal declaration of partnership, saying: “Partnership with local government is at the heart of ACW’s work in Wales. This partnership between local authorities and ACW is all the more powerful for combining the unique characteristics of both parties – local knowledge, democratic representation, cross-sector contacts and community development on the one hand; artistic expertise, international influences, and a national strategic overview on the other.”
