Arts Council Encourages Votes for Best of Scottish

The Scottish Arts Council is encouraging Scottish arts projects to register for The National Lottery Awards which are a focal point of The National Lottery Day celebrations taking place in the week leading up to 5 November 2005. The UK winners will be announced at a special event taking place in London that week. The Awards aim to reflect the diversity of Lottery funded projects throughout Scotland, across the arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment. The awards are intended to celebrate how Lottery funding has transformed the lives of communities and individuals throughout Scotland and the UK. Richard Holloway, Scottish Arts Council Chairman, said: ‘The National Lottery has had a terrific impact on the arts in Scotland, making it possible to fund thousands of fantastic projects across the country. I believe that these awards present an opportunity to recognise this good work.’ As well as projects being eligible to enter, the Scottish public is also invited to nominate projects they feel deserve recognition. Nominations close on the 29 July 2005 after which date an expert judging panel will draw up a short list. The short listed entries and nominations will then be put to a public vote for Scotland. Scotland’s favourite Lottery-funded projects, determined by the public vote, will be chosen and one project will be entered into the nationwide awards. Projects can enter online, by post or by fax.
