Arts Council Support Helps Fire Up Public About Clay
Europe’s leading potters and ceramic artists recently gathered to exhibit their work at ClayArt 2005 at Llanrhaedr Hall, Denbigh. The event, which featured an extensive and exciting variety of new works, was supported by a £7,559 grant from The Arts Council of Wales. “ClayArt is now in its fourth year, and firmly established in the craft ceramics calendar. It specialises in the selling of one-off studio pottery and ceramics directly from the makers. Unlike conventional ceramics galleries and exhibitions ClayArt offers an unique opportunity for the public to meet the artists directly and talk about their work,” said David Frith, organiser of ClayArt 2005. “We are very grateful for the funding we have received from The Arts Council of Wales, which has helped make it possible for us to hold this exciting event for the fourth year. It is a great opportunity for the public to see the very best of exciting new works produced by over 70 ceramic artists from across the UK and Europe,” he said. This year’s event included a demonstration by renowned Japanese potter Matsuzaki Ken who has recently exhibited for the first time in Britain at Ruthin Craft Centre and in conjunction with the Craft Centre an exhibition of his work was held during the festival. ClayArt also featured a continuous programme of demonstrations featuring some of Britain’s best knows experts discussing their ideas and working practices, free workshops for children and a specially built wood firing kiln.
