NEA Announces 2005 Grants For Arts on Radio & Television
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced that it will award nearly $3.85 million through 47 grants in the Arts on Radio & Television Grants category. The announcement follows recent awards of more than 800 grants -- totaling more than $61 million dollars -- to national, regional, state, and local arts organizations across the country. "The arts simply don't have enough presence today on radio and television," said Dana Gioia, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. "The NEA is committed to making the best of the arts as widely available in America as possible. Our new grants for Arts on Radio and Television will bring jazz, opera, symphonic music, literature, and theater into millions of homes." The Arts on Radio & Television category supports the development, production, and national distribution of radio and television programs focusing on the arts. Priority is given to programs that have the potential to reach a significant national audience. The 47 projects funded for a total of U.S.$3.85 million will support the creation and presentation of more than 3,100 hours of arts programming, reaching Americans in every state. Arts on Radio & Television Grants that have been awarded include: From the Top, Inc. Boston, MA $65,000 To support the production of new programs for the public radio series From the Top. Educational Broadcasting Corporation New York, NY $575,000 To support the development and production of the television series Great Performances and Dance in America for broadcast on PBS. Regardless of geographic or economic limitations, American television audiences in all 50 states will be provided free access to a diverse range of cultural programming in 2006-2007. L A Theatre Works Venice, CA $40,000 To support the production and distribution of The Play's The Thing, a radio theater series intended for broadcast on satellite and public radio stations nationwide.
