New Arts RiPPA released

The Australia Council for the Arts has released the 20th edition of Arts RiPPA: Arts Research in Progress or Planned Across Australia. This digest profiles over 90 arts and cultural research projects currently underway across Australia. "As well as highlighting current creative industry developments, arts infrastructure and policy issues, Arts RiPPA reminds us of the many ways the arts impacts the lives of Australians," she said Australia Council CEO, Jennifer Bott. The latest edition of the digest, which was first produced in 1989, includes details of research projects happening in universities, arts organisations and government organisations nationally, including:

  • State of the Arts industry research: Australia Council research looking at the economic situation of Australia's artists and Australians' participation in cultural activities over a 20-year period
  • Research into the number of people attending cultural venues in Australia and how often they attend (Australian Bureau of Statistics)
  • Statistics on Australia's cinema, video, television and interactive media markets (Australian Film Commission)
  • A project that evaluates the many social impacts of the arts, and includes a searchable database for the hundreds of reports and papers on this subject (Cultural Ministers Council, Statistics Working Group)
  • A study of knitting groups by Deakin University that asks 'Can knitting counter the alienation of the Information Economy?'
