French Minister for Culture launches “Age of Street Art” initiative

Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, France's Minister for Culture and the Arts, today launched a new initiative focusing on street art within Marseilles. Hosted by the “Public Places” building, and the National Centre for The Creation of Street Art, Donnedieu used to opportunity of the launch to reaffirm his government’s commitment to fostering street art, and to highlight the French government’s allocation of two million euros in the latest budget announcements for the year. At the opening, de Vabres, outlined the goals and ambitions of the new “Age of Street Art” initiative.
To affirm the place and the role of street art in the heart of the artistic, cultural and social life of the country To commence in the meantime with global and voluntary policy To organize innovative activities with the local communities whose role is particularly sensitive in this sector. The Minister also revealed ten new actions, which will constitute the cornerstone for this "Age of street art". The actions are wide-reaching and diverse, including increases in the total support for the creation of street art, and also for its distribution. Programs for training and equipment will also be established. The Government also hopes to aid with the international development of both the art form and French artists practising it, by working with the French Association of Artisitic Activity. Together, international projects and co-operation with artists and governments from other countries has been planned.
